I am Virginie L., a native French teacher based in the Netherlands, with 30 years of teaching experience. I help learners prepare for French exams, improve their speaking and writing, and go beyond standard textbook French through literature, history, philosophy, critical thinking and personal interests.

Whether you are preparing for TEF, TCF, DELF or DALF, looking for advanced French conversation, or wanting to learn through topics that truly motivate you, my lessons are structured, personalized and intellectually engaging.

I offer French Exam Preparation for students preparing for TEF, TCF, DELF and DALF exams, with a special focus on speaking, writing, mock tasks and detailed feedback. Preparing for a French exam is not only about grammar: you also need to understand the format, manage your time, structure your answers and perform under pressure. I help you practise exam tasks, improve your written and oral production, strengthen your vocabulary and grammar, and understand exactly what is costing you points.

I also offer Learn French Differently, a more intellectually demanding approach for learners who want to study French through authentic texts and meaningful ideas. Instead of relying only on predictable textbook topics, we can work with Tocqueville, literature, philosophy, history, political vocabulary, memory, culture, religion, society and critical thinking. This approach is ideal for intermediate and advanced learners who want to read authentic French texts, discuss serious topics, improve argumentation, develop nuance and move from “correct French” to precise, thoughtful French.

For learners who prefer a more personal approach, I offer French Through Your Interests. You learn better when the subject matters to you. Lessons can be built around your own interests, such as archaeology, astronomy, cycling, genealogy, tourism, history, travel, culture, literature, art, religion or current affairs. This allows you to build useful vocabulary, practise grammar in context, improve listening and speaking, and stay motivated through topics you genuinely enjoy.

Lessons are available online and are adapted to your level, goals and schedule. Depending on your needs, we can work on speaking fluency, pronunciation, listening comprehension, grammar in context, writing correction, exam technique, vocabulary development, argumentation, debate, authentic texts and cultural topics.

My approach is structured, demanding and supportive. I do not simply “chat in French”: I help you understand what you need to improve and how to improve it. With my background in language teaching, exam preparation, literature, culture and methodology, I offer French lessons with structure, depth and purpose.
